Development of School Policies

In Maryfield College we are in the process of developing policies in a number of areas of school life.  In order to make policies as meaningful as possible we are adopting a collaborative approach.  Policy making is a whole school process involving consultation with all of our partners in Maryfield i.e. teaching staff, other staff, parents, pupils and school management.

The Board of Management has ratified the following policies in recent years:

  • Admissions and Code of Behaviour

  • Attendance

  • Internet Acceptable Usage

  • SPHE

  • Homework

  • School Council

  • Healthy Eating

We have recently developed a plan in:

  • Guidance and Counselling

Work in ongoing in the development of a policy on Out of School Activities.

Guidance and Counselling

The Guidance and Counselling Policy was completed in 2007/08.  A survey of parents, staff and students was carried out in 2005/2006 to assess needs and expectations regarding the Guidance service in the school. A Guidance planning group led by Dorothy Ryan worked on clarifying /recording /developing draft policies in this area.  In August 2006 the teaching staff was presented with draft policies on Study Skills and Subject Choice. Feedback from parents was sought through the website.  Our revised Bullying Policy is due for ratification by the Board of Management.  In August 2007 the teaching staff evaluated a draft policy on the handling of Critical Incidents.

The draft Guidance Policy is now awaiting ratification by the Board of Management.
